How many people search directly for your name – that is a metric which honestly measures brand strength, and yet almost nobody reports it. Branded queries grow after PR campaigns, make PPC cheaper and correlate with how often AI assistants name you. How to measure them in Search Console, how to set a baseline and how to read them.
The return on PR articles and link building is hard to prove: the conversion is credited to the last click and the brand work goes without credit. Yet there is a metric that captures the effect cleanly and is free: branded queries – searches in which people type your name or product name directly.
One sentence even the owner understands: “A year ago X people a month searched for us by name, today Y – and in the meantime this many publications came out.” It is not proof of causality and there is no point selling it as one; it is, however, the most honest available indicator that the brand is moving. Combined with a monthly check of mentions in AI answers, it forms a picture no conversion report will ever show.
Conversions measure what happened at the end. Branded queries measure whether anyone is arriving at the beginning at all.
If you invest in the brand – for instance with publications via the Linketica marketplace – set up the measurement of branded queries before the campaign starts. The baseline can be reconstructed retroactively, but with it in hand every further report is half the work.
