Technické SEOOn extensive sites, what matters is how bots spend their time. We show what server logs reveal and how to optimize the crawl budget.
On sites with tens of thousands of URLs, what matters is not only what bots see but above all what they spend their time on. That is called the crawl budget – and it is one of the few aspects of SEO that can be measured with hard data. The source is server logs: a record of every request a bot actually made. Not an estimate, not a simulation – reality.
Common SEO crawlers show how a site could be crawled. Logs show how it really is crawled – which pages Googlebot visits daily, which once a month and which never. This difference is crucial on large sites; it reveals where the bots attention is wasted and where, on the contrary, it does not reach at all.
Let us be fair: on small sites the crawl budget is not a problem and addressing it would be a waste of time – Google crawls a few thousand URLs without trouble. It is crucial for e-shops and large portals, where it decides how fast new content gets into the index and subsequently into AI answers. There, log file analysis pays off many times over.
